The Boy Who Changed Everything
Greyson was pure sunshine—fearless, funny, loving, curious, and always ready for his next adventure. He was so much more than what happened to him. This is a glimpse of the little boy we knew, loved, and called “Gigs.”
Blond hair and an infectious giggle that lit up every room
He loved Daniel Tiger, YouTube videos, music, and singing along to his favorite songs.
He was fearless on waterslides and loved building giant pillow forts in the living room.
He loved school, his friends, his Gamma, and—most of all—his mommy.
His favorite foods included ice cream, chocolate, chicken nuggets, mac and cheese, and even salami.
He loved Frozen and Elsa and would dance around showing everyone his “powers.”
He collected rocks and sticks and could turn ordinary things into his own little world of magic.
He was incredibly bright and already doing math at just four years old.
He loved orcas, and one of his last great adventures was visiting SeaWorld in Orlando.
A Note from Greyson's Mom
Ali's Story
Greyson Kessler was four years old when his father murdered him during court-ordered parenting time amid a high-conflict custody case in Fort Lauderdale. I had been a single mother from the beginning. Greyson’s father initially wanted little involvement, but when Greyson was six months old, he filed a paternity case and was awarded equal timesharing.
For years, I fought to protect my son. I documented threats, degrading messages, violations of signed agreements, cyberstalking, erratic behavior, and tracking devices placed on my car. I repeatedly sought help through the family court system, law enforcement, and other agencies, but the danger was not taken seriously.
The day before Greyson was murdered, I went down to the courthouse to file a domestic violence injunction. Two hours after filing, the injunction was denied stating not enough evidence was provided — even though I wrote in BIG letters: "I fear for my life, my boyfriend's life, and most of all, my son's life." I also attached 250 pages of documents and texts with threats and erratic behavior. I also tried to get an emergency pick-up order because Grey was missing from school for two days, which was also denied. I then brought my car to a body shop, where they found a tracker on my car. I immediately brought the tracker to the Plantation Police Dept. and filed a claim.
The morning my son was found dead, I called the police multiple times during the course of the day to get wellness checks because he was still not in school. I called Broward Sheriff's Office, Child Protective Services, and Ft. Lauderdale Police; nobody would help me, stating the child was just with his parent.
On May 21, 2021, after exhausting every other option, I hired a locksmith and coordinated with police to enter the home. Greyson and his father were found dead in a murder-suicide.
Despite years of trying to protect my son, the systems responsible for recognizing danger and safeguarding children failed us.
Greyson’s death cannot be undone, but it cannot be ignored. I created Greyson’s Choice and fought for Greyson’s Law so that courts would be required to more fully consider threats, domestic violence, and the risk of imminent harm when making custody and timesharing decisions.

Ali Kessler founds Greyson's Choice in her son's memory, vowing to fight for every child like Gigs.
Greyson's Law first filed
Senator Lori Berman and Rep. Michael Grieco file the first version of Greyson's Law in Florida. It did not pass that year.
Greyson's Law passes
After years of advocacy, Greyson’s Law is signed in Florida, strengthening how courts consider domestic violence, threats, and child-safety risks in custody and timesharing decisions.
